Important International Awards and winners, 2016

Before you proceed ahead, please read this post till the end because number of questions have been asked recently in various exams including the recently held LIC AAO 2016 from this post. 1. J. K. Rowling Chosen for PEN Award

Noted British author J. K. Rowling was selected for the PEN/Allen Foundation Literary Service Award on January 25, 2016 for her advocacy of free expression and other deeds of charity

2. 73rd Golden Globe Awards

The 73rd Golden Globe Awards, one of the most prestigious Hollywood awards, were presented in different categories in a splendid award ceremony on January 10, 2016 at Beverly Hills, California. The Revenant, a fabulous revenge thriller movie swept away major awards in Drama Category including Golden Globe for Best Picture and Best Actor (Leonardo Dicaprio). Space adventure 'The Martian was honoured with the Golden Globe for Best Picture in Musical or Comedy Category. Matt Damon won the Golden Globe of Best Actor in musical or comedy section for the Martian.

Actor Denzel Washington was honoured with the Cecil B Demille Award. The Golden Globe Awards were given by the 83-member Hollywood Foreign Press Asso­ciation. Ricky Gervais hosted the award ceremony.

Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, a contestant from the Philippines was crowned with the Miss Universe title for 2015 at a spectacular finale of the pageant on December 20, 2015 in Los Angeles, USA

5. Lionel Messi Wins FIFA Ballon d'Or Award

Argentina skipper and the Barcelona forward Lionel Messi was honoured with the prestigious FIFA Ballon d' Or Award for the World Player of the Year on January 11, 2016 in Zurich, Switzerland. He got the top FIFA honour for the fifth time, securing 41.33 per cent of the votes in his support

6. OSCAR 2016

The 88th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honored the bestfilms of 2015 and took place on February 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, During the ceremony, AMPAS presented Academy Awards   

(commonly referred to as Oscars) in 24 categories beginning at 5:30 p.m. PST / 8:30 p.m. EST.

Mad Max: Fury Road won six awards, the most for the evening, and The Revenant won three out of 12 total nominations. Other winners include Spotlight, which won two, including Best Picture, and A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness, Amy, Bear Story, The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, The Danish Girl, Ex Machina, The Hateful Eight, Inside Out, Room, Son of Saul, Spectre, and Stutterer each won one

7. Grammy Awards 2016

The 2016 Grammy Awards were held on February 15, 2016, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The ceremony recognizes the best recordings, compositions and artists of the eligibility year, which was from October 1, 2014, to September 30, 2015. The "pre-telecast" ceremony, officially known as the Premiere Ceremony, in which the majority of awards were presented, was held at the nearby Microsoft Theater. It was the sixteenth Grammy ceremony to be held at the Staples Center, tying the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles for hosting the most Grammy ceremonies. It also marks the latest date for a Grammy ceremony since 2003, which were held on February 23.
