815 Kashmiri youths today appeared in the common entrance exam for selection of junior commissioned officers and other ranks in the Army.
Srinagar, May 28: Hundreds of Kashmiri youth appeared in the Army exam held for recruitment into the various posts of the Indian Armed Forces, defying the strike called by supporters of extremist Sabzar Bhat, who was killed in action. As per PTI, nearly 800 Kashmiri youths today appeared in the common entrance exam for selection of junior commissioned officers and other ranks in the Army amid unrest in the Valley following the killing Bhat, who is the successor of Burhan Wani, whose death sparked similar reaction among his followers, pushing the valley into months of violence, fragments of which still remains.
Defying bandh call from various inimical factions, 799 candidates appeared in the common entrance examination held at Pattan and Srinagar today, an army official said. According to the Times of India all the candidates appearing today have cleared the physical and medical tests and hence appearing for the written test.
However, according to the PTI, an Army source said that 16 of the 815 candidates, who had passed the physical and medicals tests held earlier, did not turn up for the written exam.
It is a clear rejection of regressive bandh calls, for choosing a brighter future, the official said.
Authorities in Kashmir today imposed curfew-like restrictions in many parts of the valley to maintain law and order in view of the protests following the killing of Bhat, a Hizbul Mujahideen commander, in an encounter with security forces. The bandh which envelopes seven police station areas of Srinagar, has kept most of the people inside and as per district administrators quoted by TOI, the admit card for the exam will act as curfew passes, which will allow the youths to move about freely even when the curfew is passed.
The other areas affected are Anantnag, Shopian, Pulwama and in various townships of Sopore.
