Martyred Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz's coursemates today organised a candlelight march at Delhi's India Gate to pay him homage.
The 22-year-old Army officer was murdered by suspected Hizbul Mujahideen militants on the intervening night of May 9 and 10.
The Kashmiri Army officer was abducted by militants while he was attending a cousin's wedding on the night of May 9. His bullet-riddled body was found the next day in Harmen in Shopian district.
ARMY PRESENTS EX-GRATIA CHEQUE
The Indian Army today presented a cheque of Rs 75 lakh to the kin of martyred soldier Lt Ummer Fayaz.
Victor Force Commander Major General BS Raju, SP of Kulgam Shridhar Patil along with other senior officials of armed forces met Fayaz's family members and assured all possible help.
To honour the brave soldier, the Army Goodwill School Behibagh will be now renamed as Shaheed Lt Ummer Fayaz Goodwill School.
Showkat Aijaz Bhat (KAS), Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam also presented a cheque of ex-gratia amount from Jammu and Kashmir Government and promised a government job for a family member
Cheques from Central AWWA Ex - Gratia Grant and National Defence Fund were also presented to the family by an officer of 2 Rajputana Rifles, the unit in which Lt Ummer Fayaz was commissioned.
