World’s highest rail bridge over River Chenab in India is taller than Eiffel Tower! Pics & facts of Indian engineering marvel

The work of the Chenab bridge is set to complete its work in 2019 and will connect Bakkal in Jammu's Katra and Kauri in Srinagar.

Indian will soon have the highest railway arch bridge in the world at 359 meters which will be taller than the Eifel Tower. The construction of the bridge which is in full swing will be built over the Chenab river in the terrain of Jammu and Kashmir. The work of the bridge which is set to complete its work in 2019 will connect Bakkal in Jammu’s Katra and Kauri in Srinagar. The bridge connects the Kashmir valley to the rest of the part. The arch-shaped 25-metre tall bridge is made at Rs 12,000 crores and is a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project. The bridge being near the border and in a seismic zone, DRDO team is taking special care to equip it with any major blast. As per reports, 1,400 men and 500 locals are working on the bridge to complete it by next year. It is the first time a bridge has been made in consultation with DRDO.

The bridge has been also made to bear earthquake impact of Zone V category. As the area is inaccessible the railways have to make roads for construction of the bridge. Making the bridge equipped in every possible way, railways will install sensors to check the wind velocity that will turn the signal red as soon the wind speech exceeds 90 kmph. For inspection and maintenance purposes a ropeway will be there on the bridge. Steel has been chosen to construct it as the metal can resist temperatures of minus 20 degrees Celsius and wind speeds above 250 kmph. The structure will be also painted with a special corrosion- resistant paint that will last for 15 years.

Sightseeing points, trekking, and hotels to meet the demands of tourists will also be its part. Talking about the project, Railway Chief Engineer B S Tomar who is a part of the project said that it will be an iconic bridge and engineering marvel of the world
