‘We will bring an end to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism’: Rajnath Singh on Kashmir, IS and more


Union home minister Rajnath Singh addresses a press conference highlighting the NDA government’s achievements during its three years in power, in New Delhi on Saturday.
Union home minister Rajnath Singh outlined the NDA government’s policy on insurgency and internal security at a press conference in Delhi on Saturday. For about an hour, he spoke on Kashmir, the Northeast and India’s Maoist violence-affected states. Here are 10 important things he said:
1.KASHMIR: Infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir dropped 45% since India struck militant bases across the Line of Control in surgical strikes last September. 368 militants killed in 2014-17 as compared to 239 in 2011-13
2.KASHMIR: Five new battalions have been approved for the state. The government has cleared 63 projects worth 80,000 crore. More than 20,000 youth trained in past three years
3.KASHMIR: “We will bring an end to Pak-sponsored terrorism in J&K and establish peace and tranquility in the state. The youth of Jammu & Kashmir are our youth, the youth of India, the future of India.”



4.KASHMIR: “We will find a permanent solution. It will take some time. A problem which has existed since 1947 cannot be solved in a minute (chutki) or a few months. But the steps we are taking are to find a permanent solution to Kashmir.”
5. KASHMIR HUMAN SHIELD ROW: “Every question cannot be answered in yes or no. Third option present. He (Venkaiah Naidu) didn’t do wrong. He did what was required. (on Naidu backing major Gogoi who tied Kashmiri man to army jeep)
6. MAOISM-AFFECTED AREAS: 358 new bank branches and 1789 post offices approved in left-wing extremism-affected areas. Upgraded air connectivity to Jagdalpur in Bastar area.
7.MAOISM-AFFECTED AREAS: Maoist violence dropped by 25% and deaths decreased by 42%. Surrender by former Maoist cadre up by 185%
8.ISLAMIC STATE: At least 90 suspected Islamic State sympathizers arrested. “Despite large Muslim population in India, ISIS has not established a foothold in India.”



9.FAKE CURRENCY: New web-enabled software to create a national database for fake banknotes
10.NORTHEAST: More than 900 suspected National Democratic Front of Bodoland operatives arrested.
