Airtel and Jio are at it yet again. With Jio's Summer Surprise ending soon, the company has introduced some new tariff plans for its post-paid and re-paid customers. Airtel is hitting back now with two new plans, one of which offers 84GB data at recharge of Rs 293 to pre-paid consumers. This is tremendous deal and it is aimed at countering the new Jio plan of Rs 399 that gives users unlimited data for three months with a cap of 1GB data per day for 4G speed.
But before you go and subscribe to the Rs 293 plan, read the fine print. To counter Jio, Airtel has come out with two new plans, which are available for the pre-paid customers only. In one, the company is offering 84GB of 4G data to the customers for 84 days at just Rs 449. While, the second plan offers up to 84GB of 4G data for 84 days at just Rs 293.
Also both the plans are available only to new users. You heard it right, only new user. It's a bummer we know.
The other question: if both Airtel plans give you 84GB data, why the rates are different? These plans are available only for customers who buy an Airtel 4G SIM now. There are two kinds of SIM cards available, one at Rs 499 and on taking that the customer will get up to 84GB of 4G data for 84 days as mentioned earlier. In addition they will also get unlimited local and STD calls to all numbers.
On the other hand, if the customer gets the SIM card worth Rs 293, he or she will get 84GB of 4G data for 84 days, but there will a limitation on the calls. The free calls are offered with this plan to but only between Airtel to Airtel numbers.
Furthermore, under both the plans, the customers will have a daily FUP limit of 1GB data at 4G speed.
In other words, the Rs 499 plan is what you should get if you are going to use your SIM card for regular mobile phone use. But if you just want to use your SIM for data, you should go for the Rs 293 plan.
The Rs 293 plan and Rs 499 plan is available with retailers providing Airtel SIM cards. There is another important bit to note here: Right now there is no clarity on what happens after 84 days. Will Airtel allow consumers to recharge with Rs 293 or Rs 499 and enjoy the same benefits? Or is it only one-time offer? The retailers selling the Airtel AIM card aren't very clear on this part.
Jio Rs 399 plan details
Jio introduced a similar plan a week ago, although this one is available to all Jio users, new or old. The telecom operator introduced Rs 399 plan, under which it is offering 84GB of 4G data for 84 days, just like Airtel. Jio introduced this plan earlier this week. Under the plan, the customers will have a daily FUP limit of 1GB, after which the speed is expected to drop to 128kbps.
Meanwhile, Airtel has also extended its previously announced "holiday surprise" offer for the next 3 billing cycles with the new Monsoon surprise offer. Airtel holiday surprise offer was initially introduced back in the month of April, and which was suppose to end on July (considering the offer validity was for 3 months). But, now with the coming of monsoon surprise, the offer will continue for the next 3 months. Under this surprise offer, Airtel has been offering free 10GB 4G data every month to post-paid users.
Airtel sent out emails to select users. "Now as the monsoons approach, we are sending another shower of data your way.
