Reliance Jio 4G feature phone: All you want to know about it

Reliance Jio today announced the launch of its much rumoured 4G feature phone, which is named as JioPhone. Along with that the telco has announced its cable TV device.

The JioPhone will be available for free but buyers will have to deposit a fee of Rs 1500 which will be refundable after three years. This means the phone will be available at an effective price of zero.

The phone was launched at the 40th AGM meet of RIL. JioPhone will be available for user testing this 15th August, while pre booking will start from 24th August; physically it will available from September this year.

"It is made in India by the young Indian," Esha Ambani told announcing the launch of the phone.

Jio termed it as "India ka smartphone".

The feature phone comes preloaded with all Jio applications like Jio Cinema, Jio Music etc.

At the AGM meet, Mukesh Ambani said that voice calling will always be free for Jio customers. He said that Jio services will be integrated with all e-commerce players.

The Jio feature phone users can avail the Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan offer at just Rs 153 per month. Under this they will get free voice and SMS as well as unlimited data. The data usage will be capped at half a GB per day

Two sachets packs have also been announced - a Rs 54 with a vailidity of a week and Rs 24 for two days.

Meanwhile, the company has launched a device called Jio phone Cable TV at Rs 309 per month using which you can connect the JioPhone with any TV and not just a smart TV. Users can opt for Rs 309 that will allow them to watch video of their choice for 3-4 hours on large screen.

The Jio phone is claimed to be the most intelligent and affordable feature phone in the whole world. It’s a 100 percent 4G LTE phone and supports all of India's 22 different languages.

The Jio phone supports voice input. It might very well be the first feature phone to do so. The phone’s voice input algorithm can also parse commands in Hindi.

All of Jio’s top applications will be present on the phone. This include Jio Music, Jio Cinema, etc. A simple voice command like “JioMusic pe Vande Mataram sunao” is enough to trigger the app and music playback.

Jio engineers have created a ‘Jio Phone TV cable’ that will let any Jio feature phone connect to any TV. The best part is that the connector is compatible even with old, CRT TVs. “All Jio Phone users can enjoy viewing Jio Phone content on the big screen.” says Ambani.

The Jio phone will automatically send a distress message to your emergency contacts when you press and hold the ‘5’ button. This feature phone will even send your location. Integration with local police services and other emergency services will be arriving soon.

NFC support is coming to the Jio phone as well. This opens up options for NFC payments and digital transactions. You can link UPI, JanDhan accounts, etc. to the phone. The feature will be enabled via a future software update.
