Abu Ismail, Lashkar commander involved in Amarnath Yatra attack, killed in Nowgam encounter

The Army and Police had cordoned the area after receiving inputs that top Lashkar commander, Abu Ismail was hiding in the area.

Lashkar commander Abu Ismail, who was behind the killing of Amarnath yatris, was gunned down in an encounter by the security forces in the outskirts of Srinagar on Thursday evening. One more militant was killed in the encounter, which started in the outskirts of the city. The other slain militant killed has been identified as Abu Qasim.  The Army and the J&K Police had cordoned the area after receiving inputs that top Lashkar commander Abu Ismail was hiding in the area. Officials said that the encounter began at Arigam locality on the city outskirts.
Abu Ismail was currently designated as the operational commander of Lashkar e Toiba in the Valley. Applauding the operation, Director General of CRPF, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar said, “This is a huge achievement. The terrorist was responsible for the attack on Amarnath Yatra.”
Meanwhile, 2G and 3G mobile internet services have been restored in Srinagar, whereas 4G services are still blocked in Srinagar, news agency ANI reported.



Minutes after the execution of Abu Ismail, the J&K police held a press briefing on the Nowgam encounter. Muneer Khan, IGP of Kashmir, congratulated the police and the army for their joint effort in executing Abu Ismail. The officer said that both the terrorists were killed in a very brief encounter, which lasted for almost half an hour. He added that two AK 47 guns have been recovered. Commenting on the ongoing situation in the area, the officer said, “Militant leadership has to be eliminated because they also misguide our children and lure them into this.”
SP Vaid, DGP Kashmir, said that the state police was after Abu Ismail since the Amarnath bus yatra attack took place. The officer also confirmed that the slain militant was involved in several other attacks. BS Raju an officer of GOC Victor force said, “Operation was important because we are expecting vacuum in the top leadership of LeT.”
