How to link Aadhaar with mobile number: In some very crucial news for the public, the Narendra Modi government has made it mandatory to link SIM card with Aadhaar card before 2018 to avoid deactivation of mobile phone numbers. The Supreme court had passed the order on Saturday after hearing the Lok Niti Foundation case regarding linking of Aadhaar card and SIM card. Following the order passed by the apex court, SIM cards which will not be linked with Aadhaar cards will be deactivated. As per ANI report, the decision was taken by the government to prevent criminals, fraudsters, and terrorists from using SIMs in the name of ordinary citizens. Considering it is so crucial to country’s security, here is how you can do it:

Here are the steps to link SIM card to Aadhaar card for the first timers:

Step 1: Visit your nearest Aadhaar centre to get Aadhaar Update/ Correction Form or download it from the UIDAI website.

Step 2: Fill the required details correctly and submit the form to the concerned person at the centre and mention on the form that only the mobile number has to be updated.

Step3: During submission a photocopy of the Aadhaar card, Identity proof such a PAN card, Voter ID or Passport. Following the submission, biometrics will be verified at the enrollment centre.

Step 4: After verifying the biometrics, you will be given an acknowledgement slip. Usually, it takes 2-5 working days for the updation to happen but as per the UIDAI helpline, the turnaround time for the updation is 10 days.

How to update the mobile number:
Users can update a different mobile number online, but the customers’ existing number should be linked to the Aadhaar prior to this step. This is because the OTP to authenticate the updation would be sent to the users existing number.

Step 1: Visit the official UIDAI website, uidai.gov.in.

Step 2: Click on the option Aadhaar Update which will redirect the users to Aadhaar Self-Service portal.

Step 3: Enter your Aadhaar number, and the Captcha text and request for OTP. The OPT will be sent to your existing mobile number.

Step 4: Enter the OTP and then the users will be redirected to the page where customers can update the desired details.

Step 5: Under ‘Select field(s) to update’, select ‘Mobile Number’ Now enter your new mobile number that you want to record in the database and submit.
