The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is examining the report of Baswan Committee that has suggested changes in the exam pattern and age limit in the civil services examination. It’s been nearly eight months since the expert committee has submitted the report to the government.
UPSC had in August 2015 constituted the expert committee under the chairmanship of former human resource development secretary and retired IAS officer B.S. Baswan to review the scheme of civil services examination in August last year.
The Commission conducts the civil services exam to select country’s top bureaucrats.
On March 10, Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha, “The report of the Baswan Committee is currently under the consideration of the UPSC and the recommendations of the UPSC on the report are yet to be received.”
Every year, lakhs of candidates across the country appear in the civil service exam. Those who crack the preliminary, main and interview rounds get selected for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.
The committee is understood to have recommended a reduction in upper age limit of 32 years to appear in the civil service exam, official sources said.
