A woman who delivered a baby at SMGS Hospital here on Friday evening tested positive for Covid today. The labour room staff, including doctors, will now have to be quarantined.
Sources said the hospital administration was preparing a list of those who attended to the woman belonging to Akhnoor subdivision.
The woman had no travel history and the authorities would have to carry out contact-tracing as well, said a source. Fresh samples of the mother and child had been sent for test.
This is the first case of a Covid-19 positive patient giving birth here. “There is panic among staff, patients and attendants as the labour room often remains crowded with patients,” the source said.
A doctor said after C-section, the woman developed respiratory problems. “A test was done and she tested positive,” the doctor said.
